İdil Sayımer completed her undergraduate degree in Western Languages and Literatures at Istanbul University, and received her master's and doctoral degrees in Public Relations and Publicity at Istanbul University's Faculty of Communication. She worked at BP Petrol as well. In 2001, she entered academia as an Assistant Professor at Kocaeli University's Faculty of Communication. She currently works as a Professor and the Department Chair of Public Relations and Publicity at Kocaeli University's Faculty of Communication. Primarily, she teaches courses in new media literacy, public relations, and digital marketing, while continuing her research. Between 2017 and 2019, she served as the project coordinator for a TÜBİTAK 1001 project and continues to be involved in TÜBİTAK SOBAG panels. She also serves as the Director of the Kocaeli University New Media Center.
